Through her joyful and fierce insistence that making music as a community be available to anyone, regardless of experience or technical ability, Arlene Sagan changed the lives of hundreds of people in the Bay Area during her 23 years as BCCO’s music director. In recognition and gratitude, the BCCO Board of Directors established the Arlene Sagan Memorial Fund in 2012. The Fund supports the values and programs that Arlene held dear—community, education, mentoring, choral composition competitions, musical excellence, free concerts—and honors Arlene’s challenge to herself and the chorus to reach ever higher.
