Call for Vocal Soloist Program, 2018-2019


The Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra (BCCO) is accepting applications for soloists for the 2018-2019 season as part of the Vocal Soloist Program. Repertoire features: 

Antonín Dvořák's The Spectre's Bride (Soprano, Tenor, Baritone soloists): Jan. 4-6, 2019
Johannes Brahms's A German Requiem (Soprano and Baritone soloists): June 22-24, 2019, and European tour June 25-July 4, 2019

Successful applicants will be invited to Berkeley, CA, for the week of the performance. BCCO will provide round-trip airfare, accommodations (home stay), a mastered professional recording of the performance(s) in Berkeley, per diem in Berkeley, an honorarium of $1,500, and access to any photos and marketing materials associated with the concerts. The successful applicants for Brahms's German Requiem will be invited to tour Finland, Sweden, Latvia, and Estonia with BCCO in June 2019 with airfare, ground travel, accommodations, and certain meals, with per diem covering any meals not provided. Note that there is no additional stipend for the international tour.
The intent of the BCCO Vocal Soloist Program is to support exceptional emerging vocal talent. Singers who are part of residency programs or who have completed residency programs are encouraged to apply; the program is meant to provide meaningful performing opportunities and support for the early careers of vocalists.

If applying to solo for A German Requiem, please prepare:

Please supply a current resumé and headshot. Deadline for the submission of materials is April 15. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges, whose decisions will be made by May 15. Applications must be submitted through YAP Tracker (YAP Tracker membership is not required) with an application fee of $5; DVDs/CDs will not be accepted, nor will emailed files. 

BCCO comprises more than 230 singers who perform choral masterworks with a professional orchestra. Repertoire in recent years has included Mendelssohn's Elijah, Bach's St. John Passion, Verdi's Requiem, Mozart's Requiem, Cherubini's Requiem, Dvořák's Stabat Mater, and Mendelssohn's St. Paul.
